Ken Doherty feels great to play in China again: 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event
Ireland’s Ken Doherty had a struggling last snooker season where he was unable to win any major or minor ranking snooker tournament. He even tumbled down from Top 16 of the World and had to participate in the qualifying sessions of major ranking snooker
tournaments. However, the former World Snooker Championship winner has had a superb start of the 2012-13 Snooker Season.
He spoke to World Snooker, “I've been struggling the last couple of years, I've had some decent results against some of the top players, a semi-final was the best I did last year in ranking tournaments and that's not good enough.”
He began his new snooker season campaign with a qualifying session match against England’s Jack Lisowski in the fourth round of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event qualifiers. He ousted the English youngster by the score of 5-3.
Winning over Lisowski, he booked a place in the Wild Card Round where he was up against the emerging Chinese cueman, Lu Ning. The Chinese player gave a real tough time to the veteran potter and pushed him to the edge where he was about to lose the game as
the Irishman bounced back brilliantly to grab victory with a 5-4 score line.
Doherty booked his berth in the televised stage of the 2012 Wuxi Classic and faced the former World Snooker Champion, England’s Shaun Murphy. He showed some outstanding snooker skills against Murphy and ousted him by the score line of 5-1. Doherty feels
great to be back in China for a major ranking snooker tournament.
While speaking to the local media, Doherty said, “It's nice to play here again, to qualify for China and to qualify for Australia and now beating Shaun Murphy who's one of the best players in the game at the moment. It gives you a bit of confidence.”
Doherty will be looking forward to make an appearance in the 2012 Wuxi Classic and the tournaments coming after that. He has already qualified for the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament where he will meet England’s Martin Gould in the opening
round but before that, he will take part in the World Snooker Six-Red Snooker Championship.
