Ken Doherty satisfied with his performance against Shaun Murphy in 2012 Wuxi Classic
After putting up an excellent snooker show at the Wuxi Sports Center in Wuxi, China, the former World Snooker Championship winner from Ireland, Ken Doherty claimed his first victory of the televised stages of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament. He
beat the former World Snooker Champion, Shaun Murphy of England by the score line of 5-1.
Before entering the opening round of the tournament, the Irishman played against the Chinese Wild Card holder Lu Ning in the Wild Card round. The match up was not what Doherty expected because the Chinese cueman performed impressively against him and stunned
him with his classy snooker genius. He pushed Doherty two frames down at 2-4 which was a real pressure situation for the Irish cueist.
However, the Irishman sprang back brilliantly in the second session and showed what he is made of. He claimed three consecutive frame wins to beat the Chinese rookie potter by the score line of 5-4.
While speaking to World Snooker, Doherty said, “When you play a wildcard it's nice to get a match under your belt and particularly the fact that I was playing on the same table helped me a little bit.”
Meanwhile, his first round clash against Murphy was comparatively an easy task for him because the Englishman did not play according to the standards and let Doherty take care of the proceedings. He pushed the Englishman 3-1 down at the end of the first
session. Murphy played at his best in the second session but failed to come up with a strategy to unnerve Doherty and lost the game by the score line of 5-1.
Doherty spoke about his opponent and the situation of the match, “But for Shaun, the fact that I had a match under my belt shouldn't really make any difference, you've still got to go out and pot the balls and do your job as best as you can. I thought I
did that today. I started off really well and went 3-0 up, I could've been 4-0 up.”
Doherty has now successfully entered the second round of the tournament where he will be meeting the winner of first round match between Stuart Bingham and England’s Peter Ebdon.
