Ken Doherty sets up Stuart Bingham clash in Round 2 of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event
Tremendous snooker show from the former World Snooker Championship winner, Ireland’s Ken Doherty in the opening round has brought him forward into the second stage of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament at the Wuxi Sports Center in Wuxi, China. He will
be meeting the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament, England’s Stuart Bingham.
While speaking to World Snooker in his post-match interview, Doherty said, “It's nice to be in the next round but I've got another tough match tomorrow, I'm not really thinking about anything else. I'm just trying to play the same as I have in the last couple
of matches and try and win.”
The Irish potter added, “But no matter who you play, they're all good players. I know we are missing a few players this year and a few have gone out, but still the standard is very high and it will be another tough match against Stuart Bingham who won the
APTC last week.”
The Craft Ken has never faced Bingham before so the game is going to be tough because both cuemen are unaware of the strong points of each other.
However, the Englishman is in good shape and has performed very well in the recent snooker season which makes him a difficult opponent to handle. Doherty must pull up his socks before going against Bingham who can prove a hurdle in his run to hit the final
spot of the Chinese tournament.
The Irishman was up against the former World Snooker Champion Shaun Murphy in the first round of the tournament and had a tremendous game at the arena. Despite the fact that the match looked quite tough but Doherty made it look otherwise. He played sensibly
from the beginning and kept Murphy under pressure from the start.
Murphy gave his best to counter the attacking game of Doherty but he just could not handle the pressure and slipped down. The first session of the game finished in favour of Doherty with a 3-1 score line. Murphy had not a single chance to bounce back in
the game when he entered the arena to begin the second session as Doherty swept the table in no time to ensure his victory.
