Ken Green to make comeback with appearance in 72nd Senior PGA Championship
Ken Green will tee off in the 72nd edition of the Senior PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville on May 24 to 29.
Green confirmed the news of his commitment with the event in a press conference on Tuesday in Florida. He said, “I’m really psyched about the opportunity to play in the championship, because it’s a wonderful venue and a wonderful championship.”
The 53-year-old golfer from Connecticut has been affiliated with the Champion Tour, Nationwide Tour and the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour since 1979. In 2009, he met a tragic road accident in which he lost his brother, girlfriend, pet dog and
his right leg when his car fell into an embankment before hitting a tree. Despite the loss, the winner of five PGA Tour events did not bid adieu to golf and swore to make a comeback. Later that year, he was honoured with a Tour Comeback Player of the Year
accolade.
In 2011, Green earned an exemption into the tour in reflection of his presence in the 1989 Ryder Cup. Using the opportunity, the player made the cut in this year’s Senior PGA Championship and he is looking forward to spread the message of life in the tournament.
He spoke of his agenda in the conference and said he wanted to motivate the people who had lost loved ones or part of the bodies in similar accidents.
He quoted, “I believe that my story may be good for someone who has suffered a similar fate. If I can serve as any encouragement to someone missing a limb or possibly a parent who may be able to bring a kid to the course, I feel my time will be well spent.”
Green will be using the services of his coach, Peter Kostis in the tournament to put up a fight against the long pars of the Jack Nicklaus-designed course. The resident of West Palm Beach added that he was looking forward to giving one of the best performances
of his professional career.
In addition to that, Green disclosed that he would take part in the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, which will take place in Savannah from April 18 to 24.
