Ken Hitchcock, St. Louis Blues aiming for the sky -NHL Update
Without a doubt, one of the teams that have managed to shock and wow spectators around the National Hockey League (NHL) is the St. Louis Blues. With their spectacular performance from beginning up until now, it seems the Blues and their coach, Ken Hitchcock,
have set the sky as the limit.
St. Louis amazingly took over the top spot in the Western Conference with their second consecutive win earlier against Chicago Blackhawks as the Blues dominated, 5-1, on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, and are now focused on keeping it that way.
Ken Hitchcock has established himself as the divine coach in the NHL by taking a team that was far out of the playoff race last season to now putting them at level with the number one overall team in the league, New York Rangers, with 91 points.
He took over after the Blues organisation fired Davis Payne at the end of the 2010-2011 regular season and St. Louis has not looked back since.
"I wanted the certainty of a head coach with a proven track record to push these young players and push this organization to the next level. I think it was very important that we didn't wait around," said St. Louis general manager, Doug Armstrong, during
his search for a head coach.
Hitchcock had been pushing his strategy of taking the team and players to the limit, an aspect which has made Blues one of the greatest now.
"I like potential. My job is to get the best players here to play their best, and have everyone else follow suit," Hitchcock said.
He definitely did that. Picking up Brian Elliott during the offseason, a goalie who barely got a contract after becoming an unrestricted free agent, made the All-Star Game this year due to his unbelievable performance. Elliott can now definitely be termed
as one of the best in the league and a huge force behind the St. Louis team.
With nearly a month remaining in the 2011-2012 regular season, it would not be surprising to see St. Louis stay on top of their league and go deep in the playoffs and even grab the most coveted prize in the hockey world, a Stanley Cup.
