Kendall Dawson earns Women’s 800m freestyle gold: Day three – YMCA National LC Championship
Kendall Dawson of Orlando-FL earned gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on third day of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Wednesday, July 25.
Dawson demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the distant freestyle discipline. She showered her expertise in the 16-lap race and made her way to the finishing blockade for gold medal.
The 15-year-old Dawson remained in a comfortable lead over her closest competitor and hit the finishing wall for gold medal with the timing of 8 minutes and 56.18 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Remedy Rule of Waynesboro-VA, who stayed 2.07 seconds slower from her former finisher and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 8 minutes and 58.25 seconds.
Rule was chased by Verity Abel of Wilton-CT, who remained 3.05 seconds apart and touched the finishing blockade for third position by producing a time of 9 minutes and 01.30 seconds.
Abel was followed by Shaylynn Spelman of ME Lyons-OH, who remained 0.39 seconds behind and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 9 minutes and 01.69 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Emily Launer of Kishwaukee-IL, who stayed three body lengths apart and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 9 minutes and 04.95 seconds.
The 18-year-old Launer was followed by India Boland of North Shore-MA, who stayed 0.09 seconds slower and made her way to the finishing wall as sixth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 9 minutes and 05.04 seconds.
Boland was chased by Sabrina Mortell of West Shore-PA, who remained almost three seconds slower and occupied seventh position of the discipline by clocking an effort o 9 minutes and 08.08 seconds.
Mortell enjoyed an advantage of 0.74 seconds over Jessie Arnold of Waynesboro-VA, who completed her race in eighth best place by clocking a time of 9 minutes and 08.82 seconds.
Dawson was extremely pleased with her feat in the 800m discipline while the tournament will end after the completion of all swimming events on July 27.
