Kendall Holt brutally clobbers Tim Coleman and wins via knockout in the 2nd round - Boxing news
Kendall Holt, the former WBC and WBO world light welterweight champion, is back on track and grabbed an impressive second round knockout win over Tim Coleman, the former USBA light welterweight champion in a 10-round bout held on Friday March 16, 2012.
The event was televised on ESPN2 in its weekly ‘Friday Night Fights’ show and was jointly promoted by Gary Shaw of Gary Shaw Productions and Thompson Boxing. The ring for the extravaganza was placed at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa arena situated in Cabazon,
California, United States.
Kendall duly used his vast experience and nailed the young Tim easily in the second round. Holt, infamous as ‘Rated R’, has been in a total 32 bouts and came out victorious in 28. He has collected 16 of his wins by knockout and was coming from a split decision
defeat against Danny Garcia.
Tim, on the other hand, was seriously outclassed by Kendall’s experience and this aspect did cost him the bout. Coleman was entering in his career’s 23rd bout and had 19 wins in his gear. The second aspect that the 27-year-old Tim lacked was his knockout
ability.
It is this reason why he has collected just five wins by knocking the opponent out. Tim was also coming from a brutal knockout lose to Vernon Paris and lost his USBA light welterweight gold.
The duo started the bout and Holt went on the defensive mode waiting for Tim to attack. Tim did not start the things off and left no choice for Holt but to advance and engage him. Holt moved forward brilliantly and in the first round with his powerful jabs
threw Coleman flat on the ring floor.
The bout entered the second round and Tim who had already taken much of Holt’s thunderous blows, lost his resilience and after the last powerful wave of Holt’s fists, Tim’s corner men threw in the towel and called the bout off.
Ray Corona intervened and halted the bout at two minutes and 23 seconds. In almost a total time of seven minutes and 23 seconds, Coleman fell four times on the ring floor.
After the bout Kendall stated, “The fight was good. I was more patient with my jab than usual. There were a couple of things he was doing in there that got me a little hesitant at first, but Roy told me to keep using my jab. The more I was relaxed the more
I started to see things. I’m percent 100% satisfied with this victory.”
His trainer and fight advisor Roy Jones Junior who is now relieved since his man is back on the winning track, commented, “I thought Kendall looked very good. We have a couple of things we got to work on, but I think he’s on his way back.”
Kendall now has 28 wins in his account and 16 of them by knockout whereas Tim has collected his career’s third defeat out of a total 23 skirmishes.
