Kendall Holt says he will recapture glory – Boxing News
The three-time New Jersey Golden Gloves Champion, Kendall Holt, who had received a ‘Player of the Week’ award from a popular sports channel in March 2004, he introduced himself in the boxing world with a spectacular one-punch knockout of Gilberto Reyes
in a fight.
The 29-year-old, Holt, reckons he can produce the same drama on May 13, when he meets the former International Boxing Federation Lightweight Champion, Julio Diaz, in a 10-round fight in the ‘Friday Night Fights’ at Chumash Casino Resort.
"I’m back on ESPN, where I put myself on the map," said Holt (26-4, 14 KOs). He also added "They say history repeats itself, so I guess I’m back on ESPN to put myself back on the map."
Holt seriously considered quitting boxing when he suffered a one-sided 6-round defeat against the South African, Kaizer Mabuza (23-7-3, 14 knockouts), 14 months ago in Atlantic City. However, later on he reversed his decision and changed his gym and
trainer to regain his hunger for the sport.
Holt on coming back in the ring registered another impressive knockout against journeyman, Lenin Arroyo (20-15-1, four knockouts) on January 29, and therefore gained his confidence back.
Holt’s trainer, Mike Skowronski, also commented on the fight and said, "There’s no reason Kendall shouldn’t win this fight. He’s the bigger, stronger, faster fighter. Julio Diaz is a former world champion, but there’s nothing special about him. Kendall
should beat him and move on to bigger and better things. If Kendall can’t do that, then he’d have to really reassess what he wants to do in boxing."
The 31-year-old, Diaz, admitted Holt has a good punching power, because he saw Holt knocking down the unbeaten Timothy Bradley (27-0, 11 knockouts, one NC), but still he believes he is much stronger.
He responded after listening to all the conversation in one of his interview at a local website that he doesn’t think Holt can even move him back in the ring. Diaz (38-6, 27 knockouts) also stated he does not want to underestimate Holt, but he show
the results once he gets into the ring.
