Japan’s Kenichi Tago ruled the court in second round of Li Ning China Open and qualified for the Men’s Singles quarter-final round on Thursday, November 15, 2012.
He trounced Boonsak Ponsana by registering the final figures of 21-18 and 21-10 in the pre quarter-final match which prolonged to 39 minutes before reaching a climax.
This encounter took place in local badminton arena of Shanghai and the World Number nine Japanese shuttler emerged as victor with a 2-0 win.
With such an emphatic performance, he gained access to the round of eight where the top seeded Chinese campaigner Chen Long will be his competitor.
Though, it will be an uphill task for Kenichi to overcome his higher ranked opponent but still he is in high spirit to deliver a stunner in the knock out round.
He will employ his valuable experience of preliminary rounds where his unbeatable run helped him to proceed in this race to glory.
In the second round match, he played with great precision and outclassed the Thai shuttler in all departments of the game.
Kenichi, who holds fifth spot in the tournament ranking, laid the foundation of his dominance in the very first set.
He did not waste time and bagged six consecutive points immediately in the beginning. Next couple of rallies saw him raising his lead with an indomitable score position of 16-12.
The Japanese player did not this rhythm and finished the opening game with an overwhelming figure of 21-18.
However, Kenichi did not have to sweat hard in the following game and he sealed a straight-set victory with a significant lead of eleven points.
He made his intentions clear by piling up a convincing total of 8-0 in no time and then doubled the impact with 11-2 score at half time.
Later part of the game saw Boonsak Ponsana making swift progress but still he failed to narrow the gap.
Meanwhile, Kenichi gathered valuable points at steady pace and swept the table with an impressive margin of 21-10.
Now he is all set to swing his arms in the round of eight and a win will escort him to the semi-finals of this Super Series.
