Kenichi Tago outshines Jan O Jorgensen in group match of 2013 Sudirman Cup – Badminton news
Men’s Singles campaigner Kenichi Tago of Japan remained victorious in a group match of Sudirman Cup as he stamped Jan O Jorgensen on Tuesday, May 21, 2013.
This tie was a part of Group D match between Denmark and Japan. Both male shuttlers displayed great badminton skills and kept the audience intact for 76 minutes.
The victorious shuttler took some time to read his rival’s game as he lost first set with 13-21 margin but he managed to prevail in the ending two segments with 21-19 and 27-25 scores respectively.
Although Jorgensen took off in great manner, yet his below par performance brought him down in the latter parts of the game.
In the opening game, the Danish player employed all of his brilliance and formulated an unbeatable strategy. He unleashed a flurry of productive strokes immediately in the beginning and stunned his competitor.
The Japanese player was not prepared for such an intensive attack as he remained grounded in most part of the game. He kept on trailing behind all the way to final moments and this sluggish approach led him to 13-21 defeat.
However, next game saw Kenichi Tago in prime touch as he matched his higher ranked rival’s skills in all departments and won a crucial set. This time the Japanese lad showed great maturity in his craft and gave his supporters something to cheer.
He raised his chances of success by remaining close on the points table in first half of the set. He managed to place a decent total before the interval. After the one-minute break, Kenichi blundered in few consecutive rallies but then couple of productive
strokes boosted his confidence.
He played with great conviction in the final moments and claimed this crucial match point with 21-19 score. The decider became a survival of the fittest war as both contenders were just one step away from the victory.
They put all they had to oust the opponent but neither of them could gain a permanent lead. Finally, this nerve-racking contest ended when Kenichi Tago registered a winning margin of 27-25 and raised hands as victor.
