Kenichi Tago overpowers Hu Yun to enter into semi-final: French Open Super Series
Japan’s in-form shuttler, Kenichi Tago continued his peerless run as he entered into Men’s Singles semi-final after beating Hong Kong’s Hu Yun in the quarter-final of the 2011 French Open Super Series, at Paris, France, on Friday, October 28.
World Number 19 shuttler, Tago, played superb badminton against the spirited Yun and emerged as the winner after working extra hard for three games by taking 77 minutes in the court. It was one of the best fights of the day at the indoor arena at Paris.
Yun played well in but not enough to beat the Japanese, who played composed badminton and booked his spot in the next round.
The opening game was a nightmare for the higher ranked Japanese, as he failed to put up a strong show against the aggressive Yun. However, the Hong Kong shuttler failed to continue his winning run in the second game and his opponent got better and levelled
the match. In the final game, Tago remained successful in playing positive badminton and took the game with a reasonable score.
Right from the start of the game, Yun played at his maximum speed and remained successful in his plan to establish an early lead. He continued his wonderful run in the game as his shots were landing in the right areas. Tago failed to play positively in the
first set and lost it by a 13-21 score on the board.
In the second game, the Japanese changed his mind and started to play with aggression in the opening rallies. His attacking approach worked in his favour and he remained successful in winning the second game with a close difference of 21-18.
In the final game, both shuttlers played attacking badminton in the opening half and remained equal. However, Tago accelerated his speed after the break and controlled the pace of the game. He played well in the end and scored the ending points to finish
the set with a 21-17 score. The final score of this match was 13-21, 21-18 and 21-17.
In the semi-final, Tago will take on Lin Dan of China, who defeated his compatriot, Chen Jin in the other quarter-final battle.
