Kenichi Tago overpowers Wei Feng Chong to surge into second round of 2012 Hong Kong Open
Japan’s prime shuttler Kenichi Tago started his campaign in perfect manner as he thrashed Wei Feng Chong and cleared first round of Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open on November 21, 2012.
World Number nine Kenichi relished full benefits of his supremacy and wrapped this showdown with an impressive result of 21-18 and 21-9.
He just took 34 minutes to seal this splendid straight-set victory. This timely win led him to the pre quarter-finals of the tournament.
Kenichi will employ all of his brilliance in the game to continue his unbeatable run in this Super Series.
The Japanese player has alarmed all the contestants by putting a remarkable performance in his opening match.
He played cautiously in the beginning of this encounter and read his rival’s game. This careful approach resulted in a nerve-racking tussle which kept the audience intact until the final moments.
In first half of the set, both contenders put all in their possession to gain an early advantage but neither of them could make a notable difference.
Kenichi Tago, who holds sixth spot in the tournament ranking, placed a decent total of 6 but he lost focus in next couple of rallies and allowed his competitor to counter-balance the situation.
The lower ranked but spirited Malaysian player did not squander this opportunity and levelled the score with few consecutive points.
Wei Feng played impeccable badminton and maintained a decent lead until 13-11 but then few back-to-back mistakes triggered the collapse.
This time it was Kenichi’s turn to storm back and tipped the scale in his favour. At first, he established a respectable lead with 17-14 and then served notice of his dominance with 21-18 margin.
The second set of match was completely a one-sided affair as the Japanese shuttler did not give his challenger even a single counter-attack opportunity and swept the table with a significant difference.
He established an unassailable lead with 6-1 and doubled the impact by piling up a convincing figure of 11-5.
Kenichi Tago kept on moving forward at steady pace and left Wei Feng far behind with a staggering knock of 21-9.
Now the seasoned Indonesian player Taufik Hidayat is expected to be his next competitor in pre quarter-final round.
