It works the whole time, but when it gets to the spin cycle nothing happens. It is only a few months old, any ideas?

  1. The lid needs to be closed or locked for spin mode. The washer has a switch or locking device which allows for continuity of the electrical connection on the motor for safety reasons. Perhaps this switch has failed. On most top loading type washers this safety feature can be defeated and therefore allow for clothes washing that needs to be done. Front loading washers usually have a locking device. Perhaps something has gotten into the locking device or the wrong detergent was used. Excessive foaming detergent can leak on the bottom of a frontloader and it's computerized brain sensors will detect moisture on the bottom of the washer. This will cause it to give off a failure signal and cease to function. Remove the panel and get the moisture off of the floor. On top loading washers leaving the switch bypassed will not be a good option if you have children or retarded adults living around this machine.Reaching into a wildly spinning washing machine to grab an article of clothing would not be a wise thing to do. Their are documented cases of individuals having their limbs separated from their body's.
