Question:

Kenmore Dryer k**b dilemma?

by  |  earlier

I need a replacement k**b for my older Kenmore dryer. Checked quite a few websites and apparently it is no longer produced. I guess I don't need one, as long as I can figure where the pointer would be during the drying cycle. Any suggestions either for getting a discontinued part or for figuring out where the timer is pointing?

  1. have you tried calling the Sears parts dept.?  They usually stock old parts.  Kenmore is a Sears brand.

  2. Maybe -

  3. I've been looking for Tappan stove k***s.  If you promise to keep an eye out for those, I'll keep an eye out for Kenmore Dryer k***s.  In the mean time, try Ebay.  I've seen some oven k***s there, including some "universal" kits....I'm just not convinced they are universal enough yet.

  4. Go to Fox Appliance of Atlanta.

click on their e-mail. It has a search request section.

Give them your model number and so on of your dryer.

If anyone can find it, or have it ,they will.

  5. Have you tried repairclinic.com?  I've found them to be a great source for parts and information.  If you had given the model number, I would have checked it for you.

  6. Ok. This may not be a perfect solution but very often the temp select k**b points at the same point as the timer k**b. If yours has a temp select try using it. It's not the same size but it may work.

If that does not work, you should feel a slight click (for lack of a better word) when you pass the different cycles. You'll feel a click at the off position and at about the 10 minute mark for the cool down cycle. It should give a good indiction of where you are on the cycle. Note the position of the squared of part of the shaft and you could make due without the k**b.

For some of the older kemore dryers, the k**b really is no longer available. (Former sears appliance tech so I know for a fact).
