Kenmore Refrigerator making loud sounds at... For almost 3 months my 10 yr old Kenmore

For almost 3 months my 10 yr old Kenmore refrigerator has been making a loud sound like "2 knocks" when the compressor shuts down. Other than that, the fridge and freezer seem to run fine. We are upgrading the fridge and would like to give this one to a neighbor. Of course, we don't want to give them a fridge that is going to die soon. Any advice would be appreciated!
