Kenmore ref;freezer cold, ref comp warm

Question

The freezer(top)works well, although some ice on back wall of freezer, but refrigerator compartment is warm. One yr old.

Must be some sort of defrost problem. To keep the ice box working properly manufacturers install a heater to remove frost on the evaporator coils every 8 hours or so. If the timer quits or the heater breaks then ice will form in the coils and block the cold air going into the fresh food compartment. Here is how it works.: for 8 hours the ice box just does its normal thing. At the end of 8 hours the icebox shuts down for 21 minutes. A heater rod warms the coils and removes the frost.The heater does not stay on for 21 minutes. if it did it would damage the ice box. To prevent this the manufacturers install a heater thermostat to kill the power going to the heater when the temperature reachs 50 degrees F. The defrost system has 3 component which need to be checked. The timer,heater,and defrost thermostat. Use a hair dryer to remove the ice buildup. Most of the time it is the defrost heater that dies.

under the pan in the freezer is a fan, or some times a damper, check the setting in the fridg part set it to the highest #,

this will allow cold air to FALL down to the fridg part,
