Kenn Lim defeats Sebastian Schoettler to cruise into main-round of the German Open Grand Prix 2011
Malaysian badminton player, Kenn Lim, enters the main-round after defeating Sebastian Schoettler of Germany, in a qualifying round match of the German Open Grand Prix Gold 2011 at Mulheim, Germany today. Kenn took just 33 minutes on the court to thrash the
local opponent who completely failed to match the speed and skills of the Malaysian.
Kenn Lim, the semi-finalist in the Austrian International Challenge 2011, remained ahead of Schoettler right from the start of the opening set, till the one minute interval where he was leading by 11-8. After the interval, the local shuttler lifted the level
of play and levelled the score at 14-14. The score remained equal at 17-17, where the Malaysian played some wonderful strokes and grabbed the opening game in 16 minutes by a small difference of 21-18.
The second game was much more thrilling, as the speed of both players remained high and the score remained close till 5-5. Kenn took three points in a row by making the score 8-5, as Schoettler tried to close the gap, but his opponent was remarkable in his
shot selection. After the interval, both shuttlers remained toe-to-toe as the local played some incredible down-the- line smashes and levelled the score at 12-12.
Kenn started to put more speed in the game, as his aggressive game was full of hard to return smashes and tumbling net-play that earned him six quick points in row to establish a good lead of 18-12. The German player tried to match the speed of his opponent
and he remained somewhat successful in reducing the deficit to make it 17-19. Kenn started to play tight and spinning net-shots, that forced the German to lift the shuttle c**k in the air. It gave the Malaysian ample time to get beneath the shuttle c**k and
smash it hard down the side-line of the court. Kenn scored the remaining two points to finish it up by a score of 21-17.
It will be interesting to see how Kenn carries his winning momentum forward during the rest of the tournament. His exciting victory showed the dominance of Malaysia in badminton.
