Kenneth Jonassen believes the English team can beat top badminton nations – Badminton News
Kenneth Jonassen, who is the head coach of England in the Singles category, believes that the English team can beat the top badminton nations of the world.
In the Sudirman Cup 2011, English team lost two matches against the Danish shuttlers and the Korean squad. However, Jonassen claimed that those teams were currently ranked at the second and third positions in the whole world and one needed to be on the top
of his game to beat them.
However, the coach believes that through the dedication and hard work, England’s squad can defeat any team in the world, if the team plays to their full potential.
Jonassen said, "Can we challenge these teams? Yes, we can but we need our absolute top performance from everybody in the team on that day to win matches."
He further added that England had a young squad as compared to the team of Denmark and if the players put in extra effort into their training, the results would definitely come.
"The teams which reached the quarter-finals, such as India, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan and even Indonesia, are teams which I believe we can beat," he added. "We still have to improve and get better at finishing off matches. We need to work even harder on analysing
where and when it goes wrong in some of our matches."
The coach stressed on the importance of hard work to get to the top. Considering the reputation of the English shuttlers as underdogs, Jonassen believes that if his team play to their strengths and the weaknesses of the opponents, they can shock the top
teams in the world.
While talking about the targets in the World Badminton Championships 2011, which will be held in London in August, Jonassen said that it will be tough for the English players to deliver in the mega event, but they would give their best in every game.
Jonassen believes that the future of England in the World of Badminton is good as the young English team is doing well and will become one of the major contenders on the world badminton stage in near future.
