Kenneth Ramsey cancels Stephanie’s Kitten’s Royal Ascot trip
Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey bred and owned 3-year-old filly, Stephanie’s Kitten was expected to make her trip to London this summer to participate in the Royal Ascot meet, but trainer Wayne Catalano has said that the Kitten’s Joy filly will not be making that
trip.
“She has an elevated white-cell count, and we just don’t want to take any chances with her,” said Catalano. “She’s fine. It’s just that she’s only like 90 percent, and if you’re going to run against some of the best fillies in the world over there, you need
to be 110 percent.”
Stephanie’s Kitten’s long awaited trip had a single aim, and that was the Coronation Stakes at the Royal Ascot meet on 22 June, 2012.
The decision was taken by Kenneth Ramsey on 12 June, 2012, who will be making the trip to England, where his other runners will be participating.
This year Stephanie’s Kitten has had two starts. The talented filly started off with a run in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland’s synthetic surface on 7 April, 2012, but failed to win the race, as she was defeated by, Karlovy Vary, in third, who covered
the 1 1/16 mile distance in 1 minute and 44.82 seconds, as Hard Not To Like finished second.
Though, the Kentucky bred filly bounced back in her second start of the campaign, where she downed the Edgewood Stakes at her favoured Churchill Downs over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on 4 May, 2012.
Under her regular rider, John Velazquez, Stephanie’s Kitten on the Churchill Downs grass, topped the 1 1/16 mile distance in 1 minute and 40.94 seconds, and in the process defeated Firehouse Red in second and Welcome Dance in third.
Also at Churchill Downs, as a juvenile, Stephanie’s Kitten showed her step-up in class is another way of telling how good she is – by making the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf look easy.
Last fall, over at a mile, she defeated the dangerous Stopshoppingmaria in second and Sweet Cat in third, with the winning time of 1 minute and 38.80 seconds.
