Kenneth To and Jessicah Schipper nab titles on final day of Australian Short Course Championships
Final session on day three of the Australian Short Course Championships conducted with the scintillating swims of Kenneth To and Jessicah Schipper in the respective events at Adelaide, Australia, on Sunday, July 3.
Kenneth To secured the gold medal in the Men’s 100m Individual Medley meet, whereas, Jessicah Schipper captured the golden crown in the Women’s 200m butterfly event..
Kenneth snagged the Men’s 100m IM crown with a winning time of 51.93 seconds. Leith Brodie wound up second in 53.85 seconds, whereas, Stephen Parkes earned third place honours in 55.47 seconds.
After the race, To said, “I have always enjoyed the short course format, testing my skills and my size which enables me to get off the start and work the turns.” Kenneth also won the gold medal in the Men’s 4x100m medley at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in
Singapore.
Jessicah Schipper took home the Women’s 200m butterfly title with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 06.27 seconds, whereas, Amy Smith earned silver with a time of 2 minutes and 08.53 seconds. The bronze went to Nicole Mee in 2 minutes and 09.53 seconds.
Jackie Staples wound up fourth in 2 minutes and 10.31 seconds, while Megan Gianotti was placed fifth in a time of 2 minutes and 11.67 seconds. Leah Bird surprisingly finished eighth in 2 minutes and 14.31 seconds.
While speaking her performance in competitive swimming at the moment, Schipper said, “I'm in hard training at the moment and I can't wait to get to Shanghai and race.”
The Men’s 100m butterfly crown was clinched by Christopher Wright in 51.30 seconds, while Mitchell Patterson wound up second in 51.53 seconds and Geofer Huegill settled third in a time of 51.79 seconds.
After notching the 100m butterfly title, Wright asserted that she was very pleased with her performance in the championship. She added that will she be expecting high to grab more titles in the World Championships.
Jayden Hadler wound up fourth in 51.80 seconds, while Lachla Staples earned fifth place honours in 51.85 seconds. Phil Butcher unexpectedly finished eighth in a time of 52.29 seconds.
The Australian Short Course Championships is a fascinating opportunity for both junior and senior level swimmers to train themselves hard for the upcoming World Championships, this July.
