Kenneth To earns Men’s 100m IM gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Kenneth To of Australia earned gold medal of the Men’s 100m Individual Medley (IM) on opening day of the sixth stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Beijing, China on Friday, November 2.
The Australian swimmer demonstrated his gruelling efforts in the shortest IM event and captured the crown. With his notable efforts in the first lap, he gained a marginal lead over his challenger and cemented his place on top of the medal rostrum.
To remained just an inch ahead of his closest rival and tapped the wall for gold medal with a wonderful timing of 51.58 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by George Bovell, who remained 0.11 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall for silver medal with a nice effort of 51.69 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Kyle Richardson of Australia, who was 1.02 seconds slower from his former finisher and surfaced on the wall for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 52.71 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Darian Townsend of South Africa, who was half a body length behind and transpired on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 53.11 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Tommaso D’Orsogna of Australia, who was 1.29 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end with an effort of 54.30 seconds.
D’Orsogna was trailed by Xiaolei Sun, who stayed just half a second slower from upsetting his former finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 54.80 seconds for sixth place.
Sun was traced by Viacheslav Prudnikov of Russia, who stayed 0.62 seconds slower and posted a time of 55.42 seconds for seventh position.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Tingyu Yang, who stayed 0.19 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with a timing of 55.61 seconds.
