Kenneth To excels in Men’s 100m butterfly prelims – US Open Swimming Championships
Kenneth To of Australia excelled in the qualifying rounds of Men’s 100m butterfly on day three of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Thursday, August 9.
The 20-year-old To devastated hopes of his opponents in the double  lap butterfly discipline as he showed his urgency towards the finishing blockade for first position.
With his impeccable pace, he stayed slightly ahead of his closest opponent and tapped the finishing wall for first position by producing a time of 52.96 seconds.
He was followed by Kyler Van Swol of Minnesota Aquatics, who stayed 0.07 seconds apart and finished second in the event by clocking a time of 53.03 seconds.
Van Swol was trailed by Nico van Duijn of Switzerland, who stayed only 0.19 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing blockade as third fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 53.22 seconds.
Subsequently, Duijn stayed just a touch ahead of his following swimmer, Daniel Lester of Australia, who qualified into the playoff as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 53.28 seconds.
In the meantime, the audience witnessed commendable effort of Mehdy Metella of France, who remained only 0.06 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and qualified into the playoff as fifth fastest swimmer with a timing of 53.34 seconds.
Metella was chased by Giles Smith of University of Arizona, who suffered a deficit of 0.19 seconds from his preceding swimmer and secured sixth fastest spot of the event with a timing of 53.53 seconds.
The 20-year-old Smith was chased by Lachlan Staples of Australia, who remained 0.12 seconds slower from overpowering his former finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 53.65 seconds for seventh position.
Similarly, Staples was traced by John Conger of Rockville Montgomery Swim Club, who stayed 0.12 seconds behind and was lucky enough to secure eighth fastest qualification spot of the race by clocking a time of 53.77 seconds.
To was overjoyed with his gruelling form in the qualifying rounds of the race and seemed confident of making his fans happy by accomplishing the same in the final round.
