Kenneth To grabs Men’s 100m IM gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Kenneth To of Australia grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 100m Individual Medley (IM) on day one of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Saturday, October 6.
The Australian swimmer faced strong contest from his following swimmer, George Bovell in the four-lap discipline but made his way to the finishing blockade for gold medal.
To remained marginally ahead of his following swimmer and ensured his place on top of the victory stand for gold medal by producing a time of 51.58 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Bovell, who stayed 0.29 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end for second position by submitting a time of 51.87 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Darian Townsend of South Africa, who stayed one body length behind and made his way to the finishing blockade for bronze medal by producing an effort of 52.76 seconds.
Townsend was chased by Kosuke Hagino of Japan, who remained only 0.10 seconds slower from overpowering his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end as fourth fastest finisher by producing an effort of 52.86 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the event was obtained by Tommaso D’Orsogna of Australia, who stayed 0.27 seconds away from his former finisher and settled on the wall with a timing of 53.13 seconds.
D’Orsogna was followed by Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, who remained 0.10 seconds slower from upsetting his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 53.23 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh best spot of the event was obtained by Simon Sjoedin of Sweden, who stayed 0.64 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and transpired on the finishing end with a timing of 53.87 seconds.
The Swedish swimmer was followed by Yu Zhang of China, who failed to upset any of his competitors and finished eighth in the event. Zhang stayed 0.43 seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 55.30 seconds.
In addition, To was overjoyed with his undisputed effort and stressed that he would try hard to defend his title at upcoming tournaments.
