Kenneth To of Australia grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 100m Individual Medley (IM) on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, October 17.
The Australian swimmer stifled hopes of his opponents in the shortest IM discipline as he showed his urgency towards the finishing wall for gold medal. To remained marginally ahead of his toughest challenger and transpired on the finishing end for the crown
of the event.
With his impeccable pace, he stayed just an inch ahead of his strongest competitor, George Bovell and emerged on the finishing wall for gold medal with a timing of 51.66 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Bovell, who was 0.15 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall for silver medal with a timing of 51.81 seconds.
The second position holder remained 1.38 seconds ahead of Darian Townsend of South Africa, who stepped on the finishing end for bronze medal by producing an effort of 53.19 seconds.
Following that, the spectators saw ruthless aggression of Fabio Scozzoli of Italy and Henrique Rodrigues of Brazil, who initiated a stroke-to-stroke battle for fourth position.
Both swimmers tried hard to overpower each other over the finishing end but failed to do so and finished their swims in an identical time for fourth place.
They stayed 0.64 seconds slower from the third position holder and tapped the wall with a timing of 53.83 seconds.
The duo was trailed by Gal Nevo of Israel, who was almost half body length slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 54.52 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh fastest spot of the event was obtained by Nikita Denisyako of Russia, who was 0.75 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 55.27 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Thiago Simon of Brazil, who was 0.15 seconds behind and posted an effort of 55.42 seconds.
In addition, To expressed happiness after his title claiming effort in the 100m discipline and articulated that he would try to live up to the hopes of his fans by achieving the same in future events.
