Kenneth To overpowers Men’s 100m butterfly prelims – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Kenneth To of Trinity Grammar overpowered the preliminary rounds of Men’s 100m butterfly on initial day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Wednesday, September 12.
To spoiled the party of his challengers in the 100m discipline as he earned the fastest qualification spot in the final round. He showed no leniency to his opponents in the four-lap butterfly event and proved his supremacy over his opponents.
With his invincible efforts, To stayed just a touch ahead of his closest competitor and hit the wall for first position by touching the wall with a timing of 52.21 seconds.
He was chased by Joseph Carty of SOPAC, NSW, who was 0.21 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end as second best finisher by producing an effort of 52.42 seconds.
Carty was chased by Christopher Wright of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who was 0.32 seconds slower and touched the wall with a timing of 52.74 seconds for third position.
Fourth finest qualification spot of the race was obtained by Grant Irvine of St Peters Western Swim Club, who suffered a deficit of 0.15 seconds from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 52.89 seconds.
Irvine was chased by Ryan Steenkamp of West Coast, WA, who remained 0.10 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and touched the wall with a timing of 52.99 seconds for fifth position.
Steenkamp was trailed by Sam McConnell of Sydney Uni, NSW, who remained just 0.08 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 53.07 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh best qualification spot of the event was obtained by Nathanie Romeo of Trinity Grammar, who stayed just 0.06 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 53.13 seconds.
Similarly, Romeo enjoyed an advantage of 0.02 seconds over Keiran Qaium of Sydney Uni, NSW, who proved his eligibility for eighth best place by touching the wall with a timing of 53.15 seconds.
To was delighted with his fastest qualification effort and said that he would work hard to achieve the same in the final round.
