Kenneth Vermeer my first choice if Maarten Stekelenburg leaves, says AFC Ajax’s Frank de Boer
Frank de Boer, Ajax Amsterdam manager, has shown full confidence in his side’s goalkeeper, Kenneth Vermeer, and believes that his side does not have to think about a possible successor to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maarten-Stekelenburg-c22998.
Boer is confident that Vermeer is the perfect replacement for Stekelenburg, should the Dutch International shot-stopper leave Amsterdam Arena at the end of the season. Vermeer has only played six matches this season but has impressed the 40-year-old tactician
with his exceptional performances under the bar.
Boer said, “http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kenneth-Vermeer-c20618 is one hundred percent sure my first keeper.”
Stekelenburg’s 2010/11 season came to a premature end when he broke his thumb earlier this year in March. After his injury, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jeroen-Verhoeven-c18375 was given the opportunity to guard the net for the Amsterdammers. However, his poor performances under the bar tempted
Ajax’s tactician to give Vermeer a chance to represent his side. The 25-year-old gloves man made full use of the given opportunity and cemented his place in the first-team with some excellent performances between the sticks.
Vermeer is a product of the renowned Ajax youth academy and started his career at Amsterdam Arena in 2005/06 season. However, he was loaned to fellow Eredivisie outfit, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Willem-II-c40945 Tilburg, for the 2007/08 season. The 25-year-old goalkeeper has played 23 matches
for Ajax so far and seems set to have a bright future ahead of him as he has shown exceptional skills while guarding the net.
Boer, however, is looking for a young goalkeeper who can play second fiddle to Vermeer.
“We are looking for someone between Kenneth and Jeroen. One type was Fred Grim the first choice and then Edwin van der Sar behind was the ideal image. But an experienced keeper is not easy to find. A young, talented keeper is therefore an option.” Boer said.
Stekelenburg is expected to leave his current side in the summer transfer market as he has shown his desire to take the next step in his career by moving to a top European club. With Stekelenburg set to depart the club, Vermeer’s first-team chances look
extremely bright at the moment.
