Kenny Britt shines in Tennessee Titans win over the Philadelphia Eagles
Tennessee Titans receiver Kenny Britt stole the show Sunday leading his team to 37-19 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
How it happened
With the Philadelphia Eagles defence concentrated on stopping Titans running back Chris Johnson, they forgot to pick up Kenny Britt. Britt, who had 209 yards receiving going into the game, caught seven
passes for 225 yards on the day. Of those seven catches, three were for touchdowns, two of which came in the fourth quarter, including a 80-yard catch and run for a touchdown.
At 13:31 of the fourth quarter the Titans even trailed 19-10 before Britt's 80-yard dash to the end zone on the Titans' first possession of the fourth quarter broke the game open.
The Titans then managed points on each of their next three possessions and finished the Eagles off on the last play of the game when cornerback Courtland Finnegan picked off Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb
and ran the ball back 41 yards for the touchdown. Tennessee racked up a staggering 27 points in the last quarter.
What they're saying
After the game, everybody was talking about the performance of second-year receiver Britt.
"They see we got a receiver that can make plays downfield. They can't just leave him one-on-one and things like that," Titans running back Johnson said. "It's all up to them who they want to stop."
Britt's amazing performance came just two days after being involved in a bar fight which led to him being benched in the first quarter.
"His performance has absolutely nothing to do with what happened (Friday), OK? Absolutely nothing," Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said. "It was a great performance. I mean, an outstanding performance.
It is two separate issues right now."
Britt also spoke of his performance and the incident in the bar when he said, "My job is out there to go play. That's what they asked me to go do, and my teammates, they were like , `Hey, erase that stuff
out of your head, go out there and play your best.' That's what I tried to do."
What it all means
The Tennessee Titans improved their record to 5-2 on the season, good enough to put them in first place in the AFC South with neither the Colts or the Texans playing over the weekend. They travel to San
Diego to take on the struggling Chargers next Sunday.
With their loss, and the Redskins win over the Bears on Sunday, the Eagles now fall to 4-3 on the season and third place in the NFC East as they enter their bye week.
