Kenny Dalglish: Liverpool lacked creativity and a bit of luck against Braga
The Portuguese club, S.C Braga, left the English club stunned after the former progressed to the last eight of Europa League title race. Braga beat Liverpool 1-0 at home in the first-leg clash of the Europa League. Liverpool were dumped out of the league
after a goal-less draw at Anfield that led Braga to progress by 1-0 on aggregate.
The second leg clash was played at Anfield Road, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 at March 17, 2011 where Liverpool seemed to lack the firepower after they failed to penetrate the Portuguese defense. Andy Carroll was the only potential threat to the Portuguese defense, but even
he couldn't inspire the Reds to a win.
The 6 foot 3 inch tall striker caused some problems to the opponents with his height. The home-side were on attacking mode since the outset but the Liverpool crowd was disappointed on performances of the individuals. According to the boss, Kenny Dalglish,
the performance was not, in anyway, close to the level required to take the club to the final eight. Liverpool was seen to have lack of ideas and therefore reliked on the long-ball strategies.
The 60-year-old Kenny Dalglish considered both teams as evenly matched but the lack of ideas and the luck factor left the Reds stumbling. He stated that both teams were almost equal, the penalty kick being the only difference. The Brazilian footballer, Alan
Osorio, scored the maiden goal for Braga thereby converting the penalty kick at 18th minute.
Dalglish said, “Putting it past the goalkeeper is more important than working him. You need creativity or luck to break down a well organised side. We didn't have much luck over the two legs and like any other team in the world, I'm sure we could do with
a little more creativity.”
Dalglish also commented on Andy Carroll’s form in the current spell of English Premier League and also the way he played in the two legs. He said, “Andy Carroll stayed on longer than we hoped he would have to. Necessity meant he stayed on the pitch because
we needed the goal. He's got tremendous assets he can offer and we have assets that he can learn from as well.”
Kenny further asserted that they are not disappointed with Carroll’s performance. When asked about the exit of Europa League competition, Dalglish refused to mourn on the result, rather he affirmed that Red’s would qualify next season and be looking to improve
their performances in the future.
