Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish, has now set his sights on winning the Carling Cup after the Reds crushed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge in the quarter-final of the competition.
The Merseyside club, who recorded a 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Premier League two weeks ago, again locked horns against the West London for the quarter-final of the Carling Cup.
Both managers made wholesale changes to their squads and it was Liverpool who nicked yet another victory against Chelsea. Maxi Rodriguez again opened the scoring against the Blues, and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martin-Kelly-c24395 doubled the advantage with a headed effort from Craig Bellamy’s
inch perfect free-kick.
Dalglish is delighted with his team’s progress in the League cup and has expressed his contentment on reaching the semi-final of the competition.
The Reds manager said: “The way we are progressing is more important that the semi-final of the cup.”
The Scotsman has hailed the efforts put in by Liverpool and has claimed that the Reds deserved to win against Chelsea.
The Merseyside manager was delighted with his player’s performances and added:
“We deserved to go through. I don’t know if we took them apart but we are delighted with the way we played and I am delighted with the attitude of every single player.”
A number of players won plaudits for their impressive displays at Stamford Bridge. Sebastien Coates, who joined Liverpool in the summer transfer window, hugely impressed in his third Carling Cup appearance. Moreover, Andy Carroll also started and was one
of the standout performers.
Dalglish was happy to see his players stepping up their game and said:
“Seb [Coates] stood up to the plate. Andy [Carroll] did brilliant tonight. Most of the lads played in the earlier rounds of the cup and it was right they
played again.”
Liverpool will play the semi-final against the high flying and in-form Manchester City. The winner of this fixture will play a Championship side in the final of the competition as the other semi-final will be played between Cardiff City and Crystal Palace.
