Kenny Dalglish foresees big challenges after loss to Blackpool
New Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish conceded that he faces some big challenges for the rest of the campaign after he oversaw Liverpool’s second defeat of the season at the hands of Blackpool.
The Tangerines proved that their victory at Anfield back in October 2010 was not a fluke. Ian Holloway’s ambitious side came from behind to snatch all three points at Bloomfield road, putting a damper on King Kenny’s return to the Liverpool throne.
The last time Blackpool did the double over the Reds was way back in 1947, and these are hardly the sort of statistics that will help Kenny Dalglish stake his claim for the manager’s chair in the long run.
The Liverpool manager was understandably downbeat after the match. Speaking on the result, Dalglish said, “We are obviously disappointed we have come away from the game with no points. Fernando finished really well (to give Liverpool the lead) and their
first goal came from a misplaced pass that beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Agger-c9884 and they put it away well. We didn't pick up on the second goal, so there are a couple of things for us to sort out.”
The loss to Blackpool is Kenny Dalglish’s second successive defeat since retaking the reigns of the club in the first week of January 2011. Although he is currently acting as the caretaker manager, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 legend has made no secret of his desire to
make his position permanent. However, results like these are hardly likely to help him in his pursuit of a long-term contract.
Dalglish admitted that bringing Liverpool’s season back on track will be a big task. He said, “We are working in our own way and the players tonight had commitment and effort, which was pleasing. It's obviously a big challenge and very seldom do you walk
into a job with no challenges. Certainly the encouraging sign is the attitude and commitment of the players. But the longer we stick in and stop feeling sorry for ourselves, the quicker that will change. We have a lot of work to do.”
The Liverpool manager’s next test is against Everton in the Merseyside derby.
