Kenny Dalglish hopeful of bringing glory back to Liverpool
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has claimed that his desire to bring the Reds back to their former glory is not fuelled by his personal ambitions, but by the ambitions of the club itself.
Liverpool are gearing up for an important UEFA Europa League round of 16 clash against Sporting Braga. The match will be only the third time Kenny Dalglish leads the Reds into European competition. Two decades ago, the club was banned from UEFA competitions
after the Heysel Stadium disaster of 1985, leaving Dalglish’s dreams of lifting a European trophy with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 unfulfilled.
However, now that the Scot is back in the manager’s chair, he has a chance to make up for lost time. Liverpool are well on their way to the Europa League crown, having made it into the last 16 of the competition. But Dalglish insists that lifting the title
is not his personal desire. He claims that he wants to lead the Reds all the way to the trophy to live up to legacy of Liverpool Football Club.
Speaking on the upcoming encounter against Braga, the 60-year-old said, “It is no less an ambition to me than winning the next game. It is not about Kenny Dalglish and my ambition, it is the club's ambitions and they have an ambition to be in a much healthier
position than they are at this time.”
Dalglish has been hugely influential during his second stint as the Liverpool boss. The Reds look like a completely different side since the Scot’s arrival back in December 2010. Under his guidance, they have clawed their way out of the bottom half of the
Premier League table, moving up into sixth place within just a few weeks. But Kenny Dalglish hopes that this mini resurgence is just the start.
He said, “We will strive to do our best to get as far up the (league) table as we can and also in the Europa League and we will see where it takes us. But we won't lose out on anything from a lack of desire.”
Liverpool are currently in sixth place in the Premier League standings with 42 points.
