http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s manager, Kenny Dalglish admits that he is happy to see his side win the Carling Cup, but wants the team to look to build on their win and look to win more games in the future.
The Reds took on Cardiff in the finals of the Carling Cup and following a gruelling encounter, the Merseyside club went on to win the game via a penalty shootout. In doing so, the team ended their six year trophy drought and are now looking to make it back
into the top four in the Premier League.
Dalglish, when talking about the win and how it is going to have an impact on the Reds is quoted to have said:
“I’m absolutely delighted at our first trophy in six years”
“It was a very good day for us and we will continue to work hard and go for trophies.
“We didn't think six years ago that it would take this long to win our next trophy. We have won it, we will really enjoy it and it will give us a flavour to come back and do it again.”
The manager then went on to talk about getting to work after the international break, as he hopes to help steer the team back into a top four spot. Dalglish is well aware of the importance that the fourth spot possesses and hopes to get his side back in
contention for the tournament.
The manager then went on to add: “We will go back to work after the internationals and see if we can kick on from here. I think this will inspire the players. I don't think anyone has ever won a trophy at Wembley, the Millennium [Stadium] or Europe and not
come away without enjoying it. It must give you a taste for more. That doesn't mean to say it's going to happen but it can have an impact. If you enjoy it you want more of it.”
With Liverpool now overflowing with self confidence and with a sense of achievement, the team is bound to go on and push forth in the Premier League for the remainder of the season.
Nonetheless, it is now a wait to see whether the team can go on and secure European qualification or not.
