Kenny Dalglish hoping for a quick return of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher – EPL News
Kenny Dalglish is hopeful that Liverpool’s talismanic captain Gerrard and vice-captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728 will be back in action sooner than later. However, the Reds manager has revealed that a return date for either player could not be decided.
The influential duo did not feature in Liverpool’s recent win over West Bromwich Albion. Gerrard was withdrawn from the squad few moments before start of the match due to an ankle infection, while Carragher was dropped because of a calf injury.
It was the first occasion in the ongoing 2011/12 Barclays Premier League season that Jamie Carragher missed a match. Moreover, it was Gerrard’s first absence from the squad since he returned from his knee surgery six weeks ago.
However, the inspirational pair was not missed at all as Liverpool hugely impressed and marked a comfortable victory over the Baggies at the Hawthorns.
Dalglish insisted that it is too early to set a date for both of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s experienced players. The Scotsman confirmed that Carragher is suffering from a calf injury and could be out of action for several weeks.
Moreover, the Reds manager confirmed that Gerrard was supposed to start against West Bromwich, but the English midfielder had to be withdrawn due to an infection.
“Carragher has a calf strain. Steven Gerrard has got an infection in his ankle. He was in our minds for the game, it just flared up,” he told reporters.
The Liverpool manager hailed the contribution of Gerrard and Carragher to the squad as he believes that the English duo has been very vital for the Reds over the years. However, the Scotsman is happy that his current squad efficiently managed to cope up
their loss.
Dalglish was impressed with his team’s performance in the absence of two major players and said:
“We are certainly much better with them in the squad than not. They have been magnificent for this football club and they will continue to be so. I suppose it’s a reflection on the strength of the squad that we are without our two talismen and we still put
on such a good performance.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 and Jamie Carragher are expected to be back in action by the end of November, 2011.
