The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager has praised the Englishman for responding to his critics who had branded him a failure at Liverpool when Dalglish was the manager after the club had signed him for 35 million pounds from Newcastle United in the 2011 January transfer window...
Kenny Dalglish has come out and hinted that Carroll has indeed proved his critics wrong after making an impact for the English national team at the European championships. Carroll netted first goal of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196’s lofted pass.
The Swedes made a comeback to make it 2-1 but two late goals by Welbeck and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873 turned the tie back in favour of the English who now need to draw against Ukraine to go through to the quarter-final stage. Roy Hodgson went with Carroll from the start due to Sweden’s well documented problems in the air as far as their defense is concerned.
Such an approach did pay immediate dividends for the English national team but it also meant that they were looking for the long ball more often than not which took the life out of the match itself. Hodgson might persist with Carroll and bring in Rooney for the encounter against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032 but that would mean that he would have to drop Welbeck who also scored for the English against Sweden.
Kenny Dalglish said, "Andy Carroll gave something close to the complete centre-forward's performance in Kiev on Friday night. He scored a magnificent header, he held the ball up well and he worked back and made some vital clearances.”
He added, "The vitriol that has been aimed at him over the past year or so is running out of steam. Even a couple of days ago, I heard someone had written that fans were laughing at him. I think Andy will be the one who is laughing now.”
Hodgson will be well aware that Carroll’s form will be vital to England’s chances of doing well at the European Championships and given that his confidence is high, he is most likely to retain him for the starting line up against Ukraine.
