Kenny Dalglish uncertain about http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s Carling Cup tie – EPL News
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has revealed that he is yet to make a decision whether to select the Reds captain, Steven Gerrard, for the upcoming Carling Cup fixture against League two side, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brighton-c38685 and Hove Albion.
The influential midfielder has not featured for Liverpool in the ongoing 2011/12 season as he is still nursing his groin injury, which he suffered six months ago.
Gerrard was ruled out for more than eight months after undergoing a surgery to cure his persistent groin problems. The Englishman was declared fit to play before the start season. But, the 31-year-old suffered another setback in August which ruled him out
for five more weeks.
The midfielder is now very close to a return as he recently played in a practice week last week. Gerrard was also confident that he would feature in Liverpool’s league fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.
However, Dalglish did not select the skipper for the White Hart Lane tie as Gerrard was not deemed fit by the medical squad. The Liverpool boss has stated that he will not take any risks related to Gerrard’s injury situation and the club will remain patient
over the issue.
Liverpool will carefully assess the midfielder’s situation before taking any decision, and Dalglish added, “He’s fine. We’ll try to get over this before we start worrying about something else.”
Kenny has hailed Gerrard’s commitment and progress during his recovery process and has hinted that the Englishman will back in action soon.
“I’ve said all along, he’s done fantastically well to get where he is. We’ll just monitor him and pick the right moment for him and us before we get him back. Its natural everyone wants to chase for Stevie, especially after you have lost 4-0. But we’ll monitor
it, take it how it goes and when both parties agree he’ll play.”
Steven Gerrard’s imminent return will give Dalglish more options in the midfield, and the Scotsman will be looking to his skipper to inspire the team, who are currently going through a bad patch as they have lost two matches in a row in the ongoing 2011/12
Barclays Premier League season.
