Kenny Dalglish vows to ‘rebuild’ key Liverpool players
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 boss Kenny Dalglish has stated that his players are lacking self-assurance after a poor run of form.
Dalglish said that he has some bridges to rebuild in helping essential players regain confidence. He highlighted two players, Paul Konchesky and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Poulsen-c9114, specifically in this regard.
Both players were signed by former manager Roy Hodgson. While Poulsen was given a chance to showcase his talent against Blackpool, Konchesky still hasn’t played under Dalglish. Konchesky was part of the bench in the 2-2 derby draw against Everton at Anfield
but he was never used.
Dalglish said, “We've got a couple of senior players who the supporters haven't exactly seen eye to eye with. We've got to try to rebuild them. If we can get Christian Poulsen and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Konchesky back on side then that makes the squad that bit deeper. Christian
played very well at Blackpool and Paul will get an opportunity as well.”
The 29-year-old Konchesky came to Anfield from Fulham on the final day of the transfer deadline in August 2010. However, like most Liverpool players in the 2010-11 season, he has failed to impress both the fans and the manager. Dalglish has preferred to
play http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Glen-Johnson-c15050 at the left-back position, instead of Konchesky, in the three matches he has been in charge.
Poulsen has also failed to deliver at Anfield and after his performance in the 2-1 defeat from Blackpool, he was dropped from the squad for the match against Everton. The match against Blackpool marked Poulsen’s first appearance in the Premier League in
two months.
Dalglish has lost two of his three matches in charge at Anfield after his return to the club. His first point in the League came following the 2-2 draw in the match against Everton in the second week of January 2011. Dalglish acknowledged that he faces an
uphill task at Anfield but believes that performance has been improving.
He said, “There is a lot we still have to analyze but really there has been a lot of positive things from the players. We were happy with the way we are playing. There is a lot of belief coming back into the players and that is great for us.”
Liverpool currently lie 13th on the Premier League table with 26 points, only 4 points out of the relegation zone. Their next match in the League is against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday 22 January, 2011.
