Kenny Dalglish wants Liverpool to treat Exeter same as Arsenal – EPL News
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has urged his players not to underestimate their Carling Cup second round tie opponents, Exeter, and wants the Reds to treat the League one outfit the same as their Premier League rivals.
Liverpool will play their first Cup fixture of the ongoing season against League one outfit Exeter at St. James Park in the second round of the Carling Cup. The Merseyside club have not featured in the second round of this competition for the past 12 years
and the Reds last won the tournament back in 2003, when they defeated their Premier League rivals, Manchester United.
The Merseyside club suffered a shocking setback when league one side Northampton Town knocked them out of the Carling Cup last season. Dalglish would now be looking to avoid the same fate as last season and is confident that his team will give their best
in order to qualify for the next round.
Dalglish told the club’s official website, "We had a bad result last year against Northampton at home, and we'll do our best to avoid another bad result."
Kenny Dalglish’s men will not feature in any European competition this season and Dalglish has now set his sights on the domestic cup competitions in order to break Liverpool’s five-year trophy drought.
The Reds manager has claimed that Liverpool are aiming to give their best in this competition and has hinted that he will making some changes to his squad for Carling Cup fixture. However, Dalglish has insisted that the Merseyside’s club sole aim is to progress
in the League Cup and the players will be going out with the same mentality which they showed in an impressive win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 last weekend.
"We want to do the very best we can in this competition and although there will be some changes in the personnel we put out, the attitude should be exactly the same as it was on Saturday at the Emirates,” the Scotsman added.
Moreover, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager has reiterated that his players are determined to overcome the League One opponents and has insisted that the Reds are not underestimating Exeter football club.
"But it's not a game we just want to go through the motions for and fulfil our obligations in playing the fixture - we want to make sure we have a chance. We're not getting them involved because we're undermining the competition or we're undermining the
football club at Exeter,” Kenny Dalglish concluded.
Liverpool, who are currently placed fifth in the Barclays Premier League table, are favourites to go through to the next round of the Carling Cup ahead of Exeter.
