Kenny Dalglish warns his players not to lose their heads in derby
New Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has urged his players not to lose their cool during Sunday’s Merseyside derby at Anfield.
Dalglish will take his place in the Anfield dugout for the first time since he left his post almost 20 years ago. It will be an emotional return for the Liverpool legend however, he says he will be fully focused on getting a positive result against Everton
on Sunday.
Speaking about the upcoming match, the Reds boss said, “It's all very well being romantic, the truth of the matter is we have got to start winning games. It would cap off a fantastic day if we got a positive result - and I hope it's got a happier ending
than last Sunday (when Liverpool lost to Manchester United in the F.A Cup).”
Liverpool and Everton have a fierce local rivalry, leading to heated contests when the two sides meet on the pitch. 19 red cards have been shown in this fixture during the last 14 years. Kenny Dalglish doesn’t want his players to add to that tally, and urged
them to keep a level head during the match.

players in such a manner.
He said, “The players here know the importance of the derby and sometimes the local lads get carried away, and are too motivated and get a bit heated. Nowadays if you say 'Good morning' to someone you've got a chance of getting a red card. But you can't
blame players for being passionate and committed - they've been highly criticised for not being passionate and committed.”
The Reds boss asked match officials to show a little leniency during the match. He said, “If there is a bit of understanding from the officials I'm sure it would ease things along a bit.”
