Kenny De Schepper, Ruben Bemelmans enter the main draw – AEGON Championships 2012
Kenny De Schepper beats Ryan Sweeting 6-2, 6-2
French contender, Kenny de Schepper, advanced to the main draw at the Queen’s Club, as he upset the top seed, Ryan Sweeting of USA, in twin sets 6-2, 6-2 in the final qualifier of the AEGON Championships in London on Sunday. The
world number 168, Schepper, needed just 54 minutes to thrash his opponent in a one sided encounter.
Schepper came roaring in the match, capturing opening three games to race to a 3-0 lead. The Frenchman held all of his own serves and struck again in the eighth to close it 6-2.
In the second set, both players started steadily, as they held their serve in the first five games to take the score to 3-2 in favour of Schepper. The French player claimed breakthroughs in the sixth and eighth game, claiming three
in a row to capture it 6-2.
Scheeper served remarkably well, bombarding a total of 13 aces on his opponent in the match. He maintained a first delivery percentage of 71 and bagged 31 of the 35 points on them. The 25-year-old evaded both break threats he faced
and utilised four of the six opportunities he created.
The Frenchman will play the 12th seed, Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan, in the first round of the main draw.
Ruben Bemelmans defeats Marco Trungelliti 6-2, 6-2
Belgium’s Ruben Bemelmans, seeded second in the qualifying draw, toppled the world number 257, Marco Trungelliti of Argentina, in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to move to the main draw.
Bemelmans did not allow Trungelliti to settle down, snatching a break in the very first game of the match and consolidated on it to grab a 2-0 lead. The Belgian contestant hit another blow in the seventh and won his subsequent
serve to triumph 6-2.
Carrying the winning momentum into the second set, Bemelmans broke the Argentinean in the third and fifth game, holding all of his own serves to race to a 5-1 lead. Trungelliti managed to win one more game but could not stage a
comeback, losing it 2-6.
Bemelmans banged in five aces and 66 percent of the first serves, bagging 24 of the 29 first and 11 of the 15 second delivery points. The Belgian gave a very good performance on the second returns, converting 12 of the 18 of them
into points.
It took Bemelmans just 54 minutes to complete a comprehensive win over the Argentinean.
The Belgian is slated to take on Malek Jaziri of Tunisia in the opening match of the main round.
