Kenny Florian: The whole issue of PED in MMA really pisses me off – UFC News
Not only is Tito Ortiz furious over the usage of performance enhancing drugs by some UFC fighters, even former Ultimate Fighting Championship performer Kenny Florian has expressed discontent towards it. The entire scenario sprung up after Alistair Overeem was declared positive of having elevated testosterone levels. In his recent media interaction, Florian has claimed that he was a clean fighter and that he wants everyone to know that.
His exact statement read, “As a clean fighter, the whole issue of performance enhancing drugs (PED) in MMA really pisses me off. This sport is about honor, technique and discipline. When did it become about who uses the better PED's and who can pass the test better than the other guy? PED's allow you to train harder, longer and recover faster. It absolutely gives a user a competitive advantage. This isn't baseball, where you're just hitting a ball."
He added that UFC is all about fighting and that every fighter hits other fighters hard enough and that no fighter can feel good knowing that he won just because he used PEDs. Furthermore, he said that due to such pre and post tests, fans get to miss fights they are excited about, urging other fighters not to get involved in such illegal activities that would take the sport down.
He added that this is going to be the only way to beat cheaters in the future in the industry.
Florian, similar to Tito Ortiz, is of the view that PED (performance enhancing drugs) should be banned completely. It should be noted here that many fighters are permitted by doctors to take such drugs, however after Alistair’s saga, most fighters are opposing the usage of PED completely. Tito Ortiz recently claimed that he is a clean fighter and he has spent all 15 years of his career being a ‘natural fighter’. He also claimed that he would not fight anymore since he feels injustice is being carried out on a wide scale.
Alistair Overeem has filed an appeal with the Nevada State Athletic Commission in order to get a fighting license to fight at UFC 146 on May 26 in Las Vegas against Junior dos Santos for the heavyweight championship.
