Kenny Florian makes way to lightweight circuit; looks at one more title shot – MMA News
The 35-year old Kenny Florian is thinking about throwing down the towel and hanging his fighting shorts for good. But he will keep on going for one chance to win the title. With news of retirement coming in from his camp, news
is spreading that he will get a title shot.
Many critics in the MMA division even went on to say that, Florian might not get any other chance for the title as he lacks the momentum to win big fights. Florian announced recently that he has decided to take a step back, which
will help him concentrate on his career. He is willing to go back in the lightweight division where many title fights would be held in the near future.
Florian, nicknamed Ken Flo specializes in boxing, Muay Thai and Brazilian jui-jitsu. He has won sixteen fights in his career and lost six, while none of the fights ended in a draw. The real difference in his career came with the
fights, which he lost were the ones which really mattered the most.
At the Ultimate Fighter 1 Finale, Florian made his middleweight debut and lost to Diego Sanchez in the first round. At UFC 64 in October 2006, he lost the fight against Sean Sherk, which was for the vacated UFC Lightweight Championship.
He was again unsuccessful at UFC 101 when he lost the fight against B.J. Penn. The fight was for the UFC Lightweight Championship, which was Florian’s second attempt to capture the gold and he lost it.
In August 2010 at UFC 118, Florian lost the UFC Lightweight Title eliminator fight against Gray Maynard through a unanimous decision in the third round. He did succeed in UFC when he made his featherweight debut in June 2011 at
UFC 131. He defeated Diego Nunes in the third round. This win was some sort of a motivating factor for Florian, who has done his bachelor’s degree in communications, but he lost the very next fight he contested in.
In October 2011, at UFC 136, he fought against Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight Championship but lost. The match went into the third round as Florian was not willing to give up, but he could not get a win. This loss at UFC 136
further reduced his chances to keep going in the MMA or the UFC division for his lack of consistency and losses in title matches over the years.
