Kenny Florian’s retirement announced by Dana White – UFC News
Kenny Florian, former three-time UFC title challenger, has retired from the sport, as announced by UFC President Dana White. After ‘The Ultimate Fighter 15’ Finale weigh-ins, White made the announcement. Florian was present at the occasion too and he explained
as to why he is taking retirement from the sport.
According to Florian, “I’ve dealt with injuries in the past. Back in November, I hurt my back working out, and it hasn’t quite been the same. I’ve been trying to get back by doing rehab, but a few weeks ago I kind of injured it again. It has been tough not
being able to train. I don’t want to do anything half-assed. I want to do it 100 percent. Your identity becomes what you do, and it has been tough [to make this decision].”
He further said, “I’m so thankful that I’m able to do commentary and do shows like ‘UFC Tonight.’ I’m definitely going to be busy doing stuff on TV for this sport. I’m going to be coaching. I’m opening a gym in the L.A. area soon, and I’m going to get a
blog going, because I’m passionate about health and nutrition.”
Florian currently holds a record of 12-5, at the time of his retirement. He thanked the UFC and Zuffa and especially Dana White for his efforts of pulling him in the main scene. Florian said that there was a time when he did not know what to do in the sport
until Dana White gave him a shot at the ‘TUF’, in which he made it to the Finale. According to Florian, fighting is his life and he is passionate about it. Lastly, he said that after spending years as a fighter, he believes he is a better man with more determination.
Florian lost to Diego Sanchez in 2005 in the season finale of TUF. However, his entry to the main scene fighting was grand and he had proven his mettle by taking down some of the fiercest fighters of his time. For now, Florian believes he will not step in
the ring ever again, yet he will do as much as he can for the sport.
