Kenny McKinley kills himself
Kenny McKinley sadly decided to kill himself with a gunshot; earlier also, he had spoken of committing suicide several times, according to the Sheriff's report. McKinley seemed depressed after his knee injury and subsequent surgery a month back.
In his last days, while playing dominoes a few days after surgery, he had said that he ought to kill himself. At that time, no one thought that he was serious but at another occasion, McKinley had sadly remarked that he would have nothing to do without football.
Some ten days before the suicide, McKinley went to South Carolina to bring back his young son to Denver, Sheriff's report added. But his two female friends, who were looking after his son, found his dead body and later called 911. McKinley's best friend
and college team-mate, Brittany Boyd, was also one of the caretakers of his son and also the one to have discovered McKinley's body outside his home.
Immediately after the 911 call, detectives reached at the spot and found his body with a pillow and a .45-caliber automatic pistol. They also noted a strong scent of burned marijuana. Brittany Boyd told the reporters that she was oblivious of McKinley’s
so-called suicidal statements as they didn’t give any information regarding such a happening but the threat should have never been ignored.
McKinley was using the 500mg Naproxen tablets that lie in the anti-inflammatory class, NSAIDS, as discovered in the report but it didn’t file any other medicine in his use. Michael Dobersen said that the initial enquiry report has shown clear evidence of
a suicide and the gunshot wound on McKinley’s head was the result of his own attempt.
Meanwhile, Boyd lives in Denver where she had received McKinley at the airport on Sunday night. She didn’t perceive any sign of depression from McKinley. On the contrary, he seemed really excited to see his son and was hundred percent normal, joking and
laughing, according to Boyd. But, a month ago he was definitely having a tough time. He appeared to be missing his team mates and football. Still, his expressions and mood never seemed demoralized to the extent that he think of suicide. “Nobody knew that McKinley
had any sort of weapon with him”, Boyd added confidently.
Moreover, McKinley's coach and team-mates were all amazed and sad to know of his death. Wesley Woodyard commented that he had seen him some ten days back when he came to get something from his locker. He added that McKinley was a friendly man, who loved
others while a big smile on his face seemed to have become his identity mark. Similarly, the coach said that McKinley was simply cheerful and content.
The Sheriff's report also highlighted Kenny McKinley’s financial problems. He had a four year agreement with Broncos worth less than US$ 2 million. But despite his injury, McKinley was about to make some US$ 395,000 this season.
