Rangers scooped two awards with Walter Smith winning the Clydesdale Bank Premier League manager of the month award and Kenny Miller taking the player of the month award.
The Rangers manager will be pleased with the start to their campaign in which they have won all four fixtures. They also held Manchester United to a 0-0 draw in Old Trafford. Last month saw Rangers beat Kilmarnock and St Johnstone at home, while also beating
Hibernian away at Easter Road in what was expected to be a tough match.
Miller was the star of the show against Hibernian by scoring a hat-trick against his old club. The forward has also scored in the games against Kilmarnock and St Johnstone and has scored six goals in four games. Miller has been in great form both in preseason
and at the start of the season and Smith believes that the striker deserves the plaudits he has received. “It’s a thoroughly deserved award for him. He finished last season very well for us and has started where he has left off.”
The manager who will leave at the end of the season was delighted with his own award saying, “it’s always nice to get awards during the season and it always means you’re going through a good spell.” Smith has turned Rangers fortunes around since he has taken
over the club and has one each league campaign since he rejoined the club. The real tests will come later in the season when Rangers face Celtic.
Smith will hope that his side can continue with the good form they have shown in the early part of the season. If they can maintain the start they have made to the season Rangers will be heavily backed to win yet another Premier League title.
