Kenny Miller wants Rangers to be positive against Manchester United
Rangers striker Kenny Miller says that he is hoping his side can take a positive approach to their crucial UEFA Champions League showdown with Manchester United.
The sides meet at Ibrox in the group stage of the competition on Wednesday 24 November and while the Red Devils need a single point to confirm their place in the last 16 of the tournament, Rangers are five points behind the English Premier League giants
and two behind Spanish outfit Valencia with just two games left to play.
As a result of the need to pick up points and with Valencia likely to beat Turkish side Bursaspor on the same night, Scotland international Miller says he hopes that manager Walter Smith will send out his players with an attacking mindset in a bid to take
the game to Sir Alex Ferguson's men.
When the sides met at Old Trafford in September, Smith employed a defensive formation that saw Rangers earn a creditable draw in Manchester.
While Miller is wary of the attacking threat posed by United, the 30-year-old told the Daily Record: "Our formation and organisation were superb at Old Trafford. We're going to need that again and more. Obviously, getting a point that night was great but
we didn't threaten their goal at all. This time, we're going to need to create some chances and produce more of an attacking threat, especially at home. We'll have to go for it."
In the previous game, Ferguson opted to rest players such as Ryan Giggs and Dimitar Berbatov from the starting line-up, but is unlikely to field a weakened team this time around with England international Wayne Rooney set to lead the line.
Miller added that: "Whether United play a weakened team or not is immaterial. Whoever they play, their team will be packed full of fantastic players, so it will be tough no matter who plays. We have a small squad and, financially, we are punching above our
weight in Europe this season. At the end of the day, the match represents a chance for us to win and go on to qualify from the group. That's what it's all about."
