Kenny Perry to rest for now; withdraws from Deutsche Bank Championship
With FedEx Tour still underway, Kenny Perry won’t be advancing towards the Deutsche Bank Championship due to be held from 3-6 September.
James Kenneth Perry was supposed to appear in the Championship playoffs along with other players such as Vijay Singh and Ian Poulter at the Boston TPC but latest reports now suggest that he won’t be appearing there. He has withdrawn himself from the match there which has automatically omitted him from the race towards the FedEx Cup.
The fifty-year-old seems exhausted and according to his agent, Alan Bullington, Perry will now head to his home in Kentucky where he will be taking a few months off to relax and unwind. Kenny has 14 PGA Tour wins while his other victories include the Franklin Templeton Shootout and Merrill Lynch Shootout during 2005 and 2008 respectively. After turning 50 on 10th August 2010, he also qualified for the champions Tour 2010.
This year, he has played a total of 20 events while finishing in the top 25 seven times. He earned US$ 968,811 this year with a career total of $31,610,815. His most recent best finish was at the SBS Championship with a T6.
As far as this week is concerned, many critics had already felt like deciding against adding Perry to the roster. They place the blame for this reaction on Perry’s earlier performances along with his record at the Boston TPC. Critics say that Perry’s Barclays performance was just satisfactory that blew him down 19 spots making him stand at the 93rd place than the previously owned 71st spot. Perry now stands 20 places far from the BMW Championship. He was the only 50-year-old to have played at the Barclays but still presented a mediocre play.
Considering Perry and the Barclays Event, at a level par on 142 Perry achieved the cut on the 9th. His final post of T68 paved his way towards the Deutsch Bank Championship. The 1982 turned pro managed to purse only an amount of US$ 15,150 while finishing off at a plus 4. During the Bridgestone invitational, Perry had stated that if he does, he will only be playing the Championship to get a look at what everything there is all about. However, if he hadn’t taken his coming months off, there might have been a lot to come by his way.
The chances were that Perry could have debut in the upcoming SAS Championship Tour. He could also have tried for the Constellation Energy Championship in October. Several other upcoming events, like the AT&T Championship and ASB Classic at San Antonio and Houston respectively would also be missed by him.
