Kenny Van Hummel will start 2012 with his first ever Tour Down Under appearance in January
Kenny Van Hummel is all set to start his 2012 season. The cyclist will be seen in action with the Dutch team, Vacansoleil-DCM, early next year at the Santos Tour Down Under.
Van turned professional in 2006 with Skil-Shimano and stayed with the team for a period of six years.
He finished first at the Ronde Van Noord-Holland in 2007, along with his second overall finish at the 2009 edition of the race.
Ronde’s 2011 performances have made him a popular figure throughout the world, as he finished the Ronde Van Drenthe at the first position with a stage1 and stage 2 victories in the race.
He also secured the stage 8 win at the Tour of Turkey, along with a second overall finish at the Tour de Rijke.
Hummel has signed a two year deal with the new team and is hopeful that he will be given an opportunity to ride at the grand tours and the important one day classics with his new team.
Frank Kwanten of Team Vacansoleil shared his thoughts about the cyclist as he said, "We've been looking for a Dutch rider who can win consistently throughout the season and there’s not that many riders who can do that".
The-29-year will be participating at the Tour Down Under for the first time and is looking forward to proving himself at the event.
He stated, "Meanwhile, it seems like my last vacation in November was a very long time ago. The preparation for the new season is already in full swing, and that means getting back in the rhythm with power tests, hours on the bike, the gym and getting to
know my new teammates".
Van is gearing up for the season ahead and is hopeful to produce results for his team using the support of his new teammates. He quoted, “We have a good formula for success and it is giving me a huge energy boost!"
The cyclist is likely to skip the Rotterdam Six Day but he might make a guest appearance at the race as a token of appreciation for his fans.
It is expected that the Dutch sprinter’s addition in the team will certainly help the squad achieve its goals for the coming season.
