  1. tkd just stick to basic

  2. Kenpo and TKD are not the same, but do have some similarities.  The first poster is wrong.  In general Kenpo is better for street self defense, but TKD is better for sport competition.  So it depends on what you want out of a martial art.

  3. There are a lot of differences between Kenpo Karate and TKD.

For one, TKD is primarily focused on kicking by using a lot of snapback and it's due to this snapback that makes multiple kicking possible.  Come to think of it, TKD is quite a bit like boxing, but only with foot- you do feint-kick a lot, you learn how to stabilize yourself while kicking at different height levels, you have some footwork to trick your opponent, but unlike boxing, there isn't really sways involve (although you could add it your repertoire if you wanted to).

Kenpo, on the other hand, has mixed elements of Chinese martial arts and Japanese martial arts and some Filipino techniques as well.  Not only does it have the linear, fast and powerful attack of Karate, it also has the circular and diverting strength attack of typical Chinese martial arts.  It doesn't really have a primary focus of attack as it teaches you a wide variety of strikes with arm, fist and legs.

There isn't a better style.  It's all depend on how you use this and that to make it better for yourself.  Pick the one that suits you preference and try it out and see if you can make it better for yourself.

  4. there pretty much the same if you ask me! why not boxing! its the best out of both! seriously!

  5. TKD.

But, I'm a BIT biased--it IS what I train in, after all!

  6. Kenpo has more variation, so it depends on how limiting you want to train... TKD is just more of the same, all of the time. There is more to fighting than nice kicks.

I vote Kenpo as it is varied

not TKD. unless you want to stay with the same moves and only get faster at them.

I prefer to multitask through a broad range of skills and techniques, not be the master of a few. fighting is dynamic, so should you be

  7. Kenpo is developed for the American streets. It encompasses Judo, Boxing, Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Shotokan, Muy Thai and old fashioned streetfighting. It's a very practical self defense style. It is good at a distance in close or straight up in your face.

TKD is mostly kicks and only good at a distance. It counts on speed more than anything.

Kenpo is much better. If you want a Black Belt fast though, TKD they give them to you in 2 years or less.
