Whats the difference between American Kenpo, Okinawan Kenpo and Chinese Kenpo?

  1. Your question is difficult to answer because there are so many different versions of each of the systems.  Without going into a lot of detail which would take a book to do justice to understand this.  Kempo(some spell it kenpo) all have one thing in common.  They all tend to teach fighting both standing and on the ground. They have the strikes ands kicks similar to karate or kung-fu. They have kicks similar to those of karate and kung-fu. In addition they also teach joint locks, throws, and ground fighting.

    NOTE: Many kenpo styles have common roots if you look far enough back.  I happen to study a kempo system that has no common roots with any of the know systems. Our kempo originally started in China around 1300. It moved to Korea around 1600. Later in the 1960's it ended up in Japan.  Today the system has techniques from China, Korean and Japan.
