Kenrick Monk alters story of experiencing an accident on his way to swimming pool – Swimming News
A key player of the Australian swimming team, Kenrick Monk altered his story of experiencing an accident while he rode on his bike to get to the swimming pool.
Few days earlier, the 23-year-old Australian suffered from severe injuries, for which he stated that he was deliberately run over by a driver on his way to pool. The accident will cost him six to eight weeks of training, which is a big deal for Monk as he
prepares for the 2012 London Olympics.
Monk has played an imperative role for his nation at various international levels. His contributions in the 4*100m freestyle, 4*200m freestyle and 4*100m medley relay events have led the Australian team to top many podiums at international competitions.
With his mettle performance, Australia won the gold medal of 4*100m freestyle and 4*200m freestyle at the 2007 and 2008 World Championships editions, respectively.
Just after the accident, the swimmer said, “I have broken my elbow in two places which is obviously really disappointing at this stage of the preparation for the Olympic Trials in March next year. It was a P Plate driver and I believe it was done on purpose.
I can't remember too much after I was hit, but I know I wasn't doing anything wrong. I've made a statement to the police and hopefully this is a strong reminder for drivers to keep an eye out for cyclists on the road. I was really lucky.”
Nevertheless, the Australia altered his statement and confessed that he did not suffer an accident, as he slipped from his skateboard. CEO of Swimming Australia, Kevil Neil, considered the matter very disappointing and revealed that no comments will be made
on the issue until the whole truth is revealed.
The truth was testified by a witness, who told police that he saw Monk falling off his skateboard. Monk’s actions have disappointed many and authorities are taking the matter seriously. Furthermore, the injuries will cause a deep impact on Monk’s training
schedule, who was eying to qualify for the 2012 Olympics, which are scheduled to be held in London.
